Al Qaeda’s number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is featured in a new AQ video released today, titled, “The Crusade Sets its Sights on Sudan.” This 17-minute audio/video message (with English subtitles) from IntelCenter exhorts the people of Sudan not to allow the arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to be used as a pretext for Western military intervention in Sudan. (Like that’s going to happen anyway.)

Both Nicholas Schmidle, author of “To Live or to Perish Forever: Two Tumultuous Years in Pakistan,” and Andrew Exum (Abu Muqawama, yo) are warning that expanding the Pakistan military operation, currently pushing back the Taliban from the Swat Valley, to Waziristan right now is likely a big mistake.
Schmidle’s concerns are logistical and practical:
