Somalia’s Al Shabaab Releases Extensive Training Video
The Mujahideen Youth Movement, also known as al-Shabaab, released yesterday an extensive 48-and-a-half minute training video titled, “At Your Service, Osama.” It shows extensive footage from the Commander Abu Suleim Training Camp somewhere in Somalia — likely southern Somalia where the al Shabaab have a stronghold. IntelCenter, which obtained the tape, says the footage is almost identical to the footage that came out of Afghanistan showing al Qaeda training camps prior to 9/11.
The video features the use of “technicals” in battle along with a statement from the group’s emir, Sheikh Abu Zubeir.
Abu Mansoor al-Amriki, a field commander whose real name is Omar Hammami, appears in the video, teaching mujahideen small unit tactics. An American, he was born outside Mobile, Ala. This marks his first appearance since a July 8 video entitled “A Response to Barack Obama: The Beginning of the End.”
On March 31, al-Amriki was prominently featured in an MYM video entitled “Ambush at Bardale” in which he spoke American English to a group of fighters, discussing preparations for an ambush targeting Ethiopian and Somali forces. Al-Amriki also eulogized a Kenyan named Qa’qa. Rap lyrics in English were played throughout the video. This video targeted a Western audience, inciting them to join the jihad in Somalia.
